We added pigs!
For many years, I made my husband promise we’d never raise pigs on Heritage Farm.
Pork made me feel bad. I had read so much about how harmful it could be…and that’s not even to mention what THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT IT.
I mean, who wants to eat meat that is demon-possessed. That ain’t right…even with cornbread and sweet tea.
And I had been around some hog farms growing up, and the smell was like nothing you can imagine.
I just didn’t want pigs here on our land. Although my husband disagreed, he was kind and respectful, and for all these years, we never raised pigs.
But moving into regenerative farming methods, my heart and my mind changed about ALL of that.
It’s not the pig itself that’s unclean; it’s the commercial farming methods. If you ever want to enjoy a commercially grown pork chop or piece of bacon again, DO NOT READ ABOUT WHERE YOUR MEAT IS COMING FROM. I mean, ignorance is bliss, right? Even if food-production in this country is a HUGE contributor to the demise of our health…but it tastes so good, right?
Your body; your business.
But I have discovered there’s a way to raise pork so that it is actually BENEFICIAL to our diet.
Meet Margaret, Matilda, and Miss Piggy…living, breathing, grunting proof that we (meaning ME) are never too old to learn new things and to discover a better way.
Not only have we added pigs to Heritage Farm, but surprisingly, I am their main caretaker. I feed them every day either our leftovers or good non-GMO food. I pet them and scratch them behind their ears. I spray them with a natural fly-repellent made from apple cider vinegar and essential oils. I scramble them eggs when we have extra, and make sure I add a little butter and salt and pepper…just like I like mine.
Who am I?
If we are earnest and teachable, life continues to open up with new adventures.
With this post, I’m not selling pork. I’m just offering all of us an idea that perhaps we have believed some things that aren’t true…big things and little things…important things and little simple things…and if we’ll be open and unguarded if we will open our hearts to the thought that MAYBE we are wrong about some things…even when our hearts have been right…maybe the Creator will show us some things that will surprise and delight us...like these three little piggies have surprised and delighted me.
